Footprint Introduction

Activity:
My first project was to create a footprint to introduce myself to the class with things that I like to do. We traced our shoe on a piece of paper and then cut it out for the base of the project. Throughout this project we used three different types of media to describe to the class things that we like to do. For my first media example I drew out mountains because I love to hike and spend time in the wilderness. It is a beautiful place to go and spend time outdoors. I also drew a track because I love to run and I run for Northern State University. Then I used a cotton ball symbolizing snow because I enjoy snowboarding. For my third type of media I used a foam pad and cut out a bowling ball because bowling has been a big part of my life since I was a little girl. I added in a coffee cup and a ukulele because I love to sit and play ukulele and enjoy a nice warm cup of coffee in my free time. Lastly, I added the state of South Dakota because I was born and raised in Sioux Falls, South Dakota.

Extension Activity:
Another activity I was thinking that we could do to introduce each student in the class is have a student of the week each week. At the beginning of the school year I would send home a big poster board that each student could fill out. On that board there would be favorite color, food and sport. Then it would have a section about what they would like to be when they grow up. Another section could be about their family, how old they are and some fun facts about them. Lastly, I would take pictures of each student that we could place on their poster. The student would then stand in front of the class and introduce themselves. We would then hang their poster on the student of the week wall and everyone would be able to read and get to know the student that week. It would be a great activity to get to know each student within the class just a little better.
